Implementing APL Pillars in the Classroom

What is it?

Students are actively involved (hands and minds-on) and have a voice and choice in the learning process​​

How to Implement?

Provide math activities with more than one solution and offer choices in how ideas are explored and understanding may be shown

Reinventing Math with APL Coaching

TOPIC OF THE MONTH

Each month, a topic aligned with APL practices is chosen. This helps teachers master one aspect of implementing APL at a time, making teaching more manageable and impactful.

 

Coaches will provide lesson exemplars related to the monthly topic, offering concrete examples and resources that teachers can directly apply in their classrooms.

APL PILLAR

APL coaches will use one of the six pillars of APL as a foundational framework to guide and support educators. These pillars ensure a consistent and effective approach to classroom teaching and learning.

 

The pillars provide a structured method for developing teachers' skills, focusing on specific areas for improvement and growth.

MATH STANDARD

APL coaching incorporates the new VDOE Math Standards to ensure lesson plans and teaching practices meet state requirements.

 

By integrating math standards into APL practices, coaches help teachers create lessons that meet educational standards and embody effective teaching principles outlined in the APL pillars.
